I recently installed the oik-css plugin and now I’m not getting spacing between my paragraphs. Why is my content all scrunched up?
Q. What can I do to control automatic paragraph generation.
A. Ensure that the Disable automatic paragraph generation checkbox is not checked. See oik options > Overview – oik-CSS options.
WordPress has a core function that performs automatic paragraph generation.
When your content is written on separate lines, but not enclosed in HTML paragraph tags, then WordPress will automatically wrap the lines in these tags as it generates the page.
Content without paragraph tags.

In version 0.6 of oik-css this logic was always overridden. ie. oik-css disabled automatic paragraph generation. If you found you needed automatic paragraph generation to be enabled then you needed to use [bw_autop] to enable it within the content of the post/page.
In normal use we discovered that we actually preferred having automatic paragraph generation enabled rather than disabled. So in version 0.7 we added an option field to enable you to control the behaviour.
The default setting is that automatic paragraph generation is enabled. But it’s slightly different since it set up to be performed after shortcode expansion.
There are two advantages to this:
- WordPress is less likely to insert unwanted tags between shortcodes
- It allows us to use the [bw_autop] shortcode to enable or disable the logic
Note: The current value of the ‘Disable automatic paragraph generation’ checkbox is: No
